When rolling, use only a high-quality short nap 3/8" roller cover. Apply using thin coats. For the smoothest possible finish, thin the paint approximately 10% using Sea Hawk 2053. Sea Hawk AF33 has a tendency for settling to occur, especially if the paint has been on the shelf for several months. Thoroughly mix the paint before using. Before using, check the sides and bottom of the can to make sure all the pigment has been mixed in. Remove all grease, oil, wax, or other foreign material. Be sure to apply in good weather when air and surface temperatures are above 50F. For optimum application properties, bring material to 70-80F temperature range prior to mixing and application. Previously Painted Surfaces - Known Compatibility of Existing Paint; Power wash to remove any loose paint, dirt, grease, or any other surface contaminants.; Scuff sand with 80 grit sandpaper, or scuff with a 3M Scotch-Brite 7447 pad scrubbing thoroughly. Remove all residue and let dry.; Apply a minimum of two coats of Sea Hawk AF33.; Allow 3-6 hours between coats and a minimum overnight dry.; For commercial marine applications, a 3rd coat can be applied at the waterline.; Previously Painted Surfaces - Unknown Compatibility of Existing Paint; Power wash to remove any loose paint, dirt, grease, or any other surface contaminants.; Scuff sand with 80 grit sandpaper, or scuff with a 3M Scotch-Brite 7447 pad scrubbing thoroughly. Remove all residue and let dry.; Apply 1 coat of 1277 Barrier Coat Primer, sHAWKocon or 1283 Island Primer.; Apply a minimum of two coats of Sea Hawk AF33.; Allow 3-6 hours between coats and a minimum overnight dry.; For commercial marine applications, a 3rd coat can be applied at the waterline.; Previously Painted Surfaces in Poor Condition; Strip paint with Sea Hawk 1280 Marine Paint Stripper, or by sanding or commercial blast.; Refer to Bare Fiberglass application guidelines.; Bare Fiberglass; It is important that all contaminants such as grease, oil, wax, salt, or other foreign material are completely removed.; Scrub the surface with a detergent soap and stiff bristle brush.; Follow one of the two steps below to de-wax the surface.; Clean and de-wax fiberglass hull with S-80 Wax n' Grease Killer solvent-based de-wax. Saturate cheesecloth rag and wipe thoroughly to remove any cleaner and contaminants. Remove residue before it dries.; Apply S-90 De-Wax Etch & Cleaner with a maroon 3M Scotch-Brite pad, scrubbing thoroughly. Do not allow the cleaner to dry on the surface. Remove by flushing with water.; Rinse the entire surface with water and check for any beading on the surface. This will indicate that wax is still present.; If necessary, repeat the de-wax step again until the surface is contaminant-free.; Follow one of the systems below.; Bare Fiberglass - Premium Blister Protection System; Sand to a uniformly frosty, dull looking surface with 80-100 grit sandpaper.; Rewash with S-80 Wax and Grease Killer or S-90 De-Wax Etch & Cleaner.; Seal the surface with 2-3 coats of Tuff Stuff Primer. Follow Tuff Stuff's Application Guidelines.; Apply a minimum of two coats of Seahawk AF33.; Allow 3-6 hours between coats and a minimum overnight dry.; For commercial marine applications, a 3rd coat can be applied at the waterline.; Bare Fiberglass - Sanding System; Sand to a uniformly frosty, dull looking surface with 80-100 grit sandpaper. Remove any residue.; Apply a minimum of two coats of Seahawk AF33.; Allow 3-6 hours between coats and a minimum overnight dry.; For commercial marine applications, a 3rd coat can be applied at the waterline.; Wood Surfaces; Sand the wood surface with 80 grit sandpaper.
